Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó spoke at an event co-organized by the Embassy of Hungary at the National Press Club in Washington, DC to kick off the Embassy of Hungary's six-week long program of events honoring the 60th Anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight and also attended the 8th Annual CEPA Forum at the Willard InterContinental on his visit to Washington, DC between September 27-28.
On his recent visit to Washington, DC between September 27-28, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó spoke at an event co-organized by the Embassy of Hungary and the prestigious National Press Club in Washington, DC and delivered the keynote speech at the 8th Annual CEPA Forum. Speaking at the National Press Club, Szijjártó elaborated on the historical significance the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and its impact on the Cold War, as well as the legacy of its values - freedom, independence, and democracy - which have played a key role in the solidification of strong post-Cold War US-Hungarian bilateral relations.
Delivering the keynote speech at the CEPA Forum at the Willard InterContinental Hotel the following morning, Minister Szijjártó highlighted the many crises currently facing Europe, namely Brexit and the migration crisis, and said that the EU must strive to increase democratic accountability in Brussels while simultaneously holding on to its historical culture. The Foreign Minister also sat down for four one-on-one interviews with Hungarian News Agency MTI and American new outlets USA Today, Newsmax, and Politico on his visit to the United States. Szijjártó discussed the Hungarian rationale behind the upcoming migration referendum and emphasized that "Europe has been facing tremendous challenges regarding public security and terrorism."
