The comic book on the 1956 Revolution by Attila Futaki and Gábor Tallai has been published.

On Thursday afternoon 16 March, the Embassy of Hungary in the Netherlands presented the short documentary ‘The Hungarian Revolution of 1956 – 60 years later.

In honour of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight an event series including wreath laying, round table discussions and an exhibition was held in Kruševo.

The 1956 Revolution was commemorated with a four-day exhibition by Hungarian Trade Office in Taipei. The guests in Taiwan were introduced to the events of the 1956 Revolution in a temporary banner exhibition.

In 2016, several events dedicated to the commemoration of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight 60th Anniversary took place in Hungary. To commemorate events of 1956, the House of Terror Museum of Budapest created the exhibition "For Freedom and Independence" which is now displayed in the windows of the National Archives of Latvia, Šķūņu street 11.

The Budapest Business Journal published a supplement today on the 1956 Uprising. The aim is to tell expat businesspeople working and living in Hungary, as well as their families and tourists arriving here, more about the background to, and events of, the revolution. 

From early October to the end of November the heroes of 1956 were commemorated by a unique grand tour across Europe featuring several world-famous Hungarian artists.

A three-part exhibition has opened in Belgium presenting the personal belongings and relics of the 1956 emigrants to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight in Brussels sponsored by the Memorial Committee for the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight.

On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, Glowing Bulbs Visual Arts Collective, together with the Hungarian Cultural Center and the Hungarian Consulate General in New York are engaging in a major undertaking by bringing the legacy of the revolution and its universal message to New York City in the form of a large scale video mapping installation, to be projected onto the Manhattan Bridge in DUMBO, Brooklyn on the nights of October 21, 22 and 23.

American soccer player of the United States national team and former Manchester United player delivered a special video message of support in honour of the 60th Anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution.

The Embassy of Hungary in Riga is celebrating the 60th anniversary of 1956 Revolution by a concert and reception in Riga on 26 October at the Great Gilde Concert Hall.

Nikšić, Montenegro is paying tribute to the heroes of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight with an open-air exhibition, concert and lecture.

The commemorative programmes started with the opening of the exhibition Parallel Uprisings 1916/1956 in Dublin City University's St. Patrick's Library followed by a service of remembrance held in St Mary's Pro Cathedral in the evening to commemorate the sacrifice of the Hungarian Revolutionaries of 1956. Bence Rétvári, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Human Capacities of Hungary spoke at the event, as well as Seán Ó Fearghaíl, Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann and István Pálffy Ambassador of Hungary to Ireland.

On Tuesday, October 25, the Embassy of Hungary hosted a screening of the 2006 award-winning documentary “Freedom’s Fury.” Narrated by the legendary Olympic CHampion Swimmer Mark Spitz, “Freedom’s Fury” tells the story of the 1956 Revolution and follows the Hungarian water polo team’s journey to the Olympic finals in 1956 where they faced the Soviet Union in the now infamous “Blood in the Water Match.”

NATO Allies and partners marked the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution on Monday (24 October 2016) with a special exhibition at NATO Headquarters. The exhibition was opened by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, his father, Thorvald Stoltenberg, who helped Hungarian refugees fleeing the invading Soviet Army in 1956, as well as Hungarian Ambassador to NATO, Péter Sztáray, and Hungarian politician and professor, Dr. János Horváth.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade spoke at a commemoration of the 1956 Revolution in Montreal as part of his Canadian visit. Péter Szijjártó stressed that “if anyone has a look at our history, it is beyond doubt that the Hungarian nation is not only a freedom-loving nation but the nation of freedom fighters” at the Our Lady Of Hungary Parish, Montréal.

São Paulo, the home of a Hungarian community of one hundred thousand people, held a commemoration for the 60th anniversary of 1956 Revolution. Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén held a speech to more than 300 attendees at one of the most famous schools of the city, the Colégio Santo Américo (Szent Imre Kollégium) of São Paulo, which was founded by Hungarians.

The common European heritage and the crucial role of freedom connects the Hungarians and the Swiss – said Zoltán Balog in his address at the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight in Zurich.

On occasion of the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight the Memorial Committee for 1956 coordinating the Memorial Year for 1956 has asked the parties of the Hungarian Assembly to demonstrate their commitment to the glorious heritage of the Revolution and Freedom Fight in a joint declaration and not to use the greatest national day of our national identity for political purposes. This joint declaration has been signed by all parties concerned except for the Gyula Molnár, the leader of the Hungarian Socialist Party, therefore the Memorial Committee for 1956 is making the following statement to the Hungarian nation.

Minister of Human Capacities Zoltán Balog thanked the Germans and Germany for the assistance they provided to Hungarian refugees in 1956 and for their solidarity.

The representatives of the Charles de Gaulle Committee and the French-Hungarian Hungarian Revolution Memorial Committee commemorated the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight participated in the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution in Paris.

At a press conference, MoD Parliamentary State Secretary Tamás Vargha stated that heroism, tribute and freedom will be the central ideas of the commemoration organized for the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight.

At an event organised by the Hungarian consul general in the building of the Bavarian parliament (Landtag) to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that opening Hungary’s western border in 1989 and protecting its borders now are two sides of the same coin: “In 1989 we took action for Europe’s freedom, and today we are protecting this freedom. Today […] the security of Hungary also means the security of Europe”.

Washington, DC – On Sunday, October 16 the Embassy of Hungary, in collaboration with Hungarian-American organizations across the Washington, D.C. area, erected a statue of the “Budapest Lad” to permanently commemorate the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight on the special occasion of its 60th Anniversary.

Last week a six-week-long series of events began with a conference opened by István Simicskó, the Minister of Defence of Hungary at the National Defense University of Washington. Subsequently, the minister opened an exhibition in the Pentagon, inaugurated a statue in the new block of the Hungarian Embassy and honoured the memory of 1956 by with a film festival and three concerts.

Minister of Defense of Hungary István Simicskó visited Washington, DC from October 10-14 and met with US Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work. Minister Simicskó also delivered the keynote address at a symposium held at the prestigious National Defense University in commemoration of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight on Wednesday, October 13.

A photo exhibition titled “The fortnight of Hungarian freedom” opened in Moscow on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight. The exhibition is open to visitors from 3rd October in the Memorial Centre as the first part of the program series of the Hungarian Embassy in Moscow.

Sziget Ltd. has received 300 million forints through public procurement, the Esztrád Theatre, staging the symphonic rock fantasy titled Here you must live and die!, has received 100 million forints and the Hungarian Writers' Association has been given approximately 40 million forints by the Memorial Committee for 1956 through public tendering.

According to a government decision Mária Schmidt, the Director General of the House of Terror Museum is to coordinate the commemorations of 1956 next year as government commissioner. László Kövér, the Speaker of the National Assembly, is to be the patron of the program series – the minister of Human Capacities announced on Szabad szemmel (the Naked Eye) on ATV.
